Why we built busontop

Topping up a transit card should not mean a detour to a station machine in the heat, or a queue when you are already late. We built busontop so a hafilat recharge takes a couple of minutes from a phone: enter the card number, choose an amount, and the new balance is ready for the next tap on the bus.

We focus on one thing — an online bus card recharge that is clear in both English and Arabic. There is no app to install and no account to register. We are an independent service and are not the operator of the hafilat network.

What a hafilat card is, in our own words

A hafilat card is a contactless stored-value smart card used to pay bus fares in Abu Dhabi. It carries a 10-digit reference printed on the front, and a balance in AED that goes down as you ride. Categories include Standard (Silver), Personal, Senior and Student, each with its own fare and eligibility rules. A top up bus card payment adds AED balance to whichever card you hold.

How we keep it simple

• One short form. Card number, category, amount — that is the core of a bus card recharge here.
• Conditional fields. We only ask for a cardholder name when the card category actually needs it.
• Two real languages. The Arabic version is a full translation with right-to-left layout, not a machine afterthought.
• Clear pricing. Top-ups run from AED 5 to AED 500, in AED only, with no hidden surcharge baked into the amount you pick.

Who we are not

We are not the hafilat operator, and we do not claim any official status. busontop is an independent top up bus card service. For anything to do with card issuance, replacement, or registration of Senior and Student status, the official transport channels in Abu Dhabi remain the right place to go.
